Don't Fall Foul Of The Law

If you're a manager, supervisor or director responsible for people using MEWPs, it's essential that you know what your management and legal responsibilities are – otherwise you could face a hefty fine or even end up going to jail!

Under the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 companies and organisations can now be found guilty of corporate manslaughter as a result of serious management failures resulting in a gross breach of a duty of care. Other legislation that must also be adhered to includes the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) and the Work at Height Regulations 2005.

Our IPAF MEWPs For Managers training course will provide you with all the knowledge you need to keep you on the right side of the law – and more importantly to keep your employees safe.

This one-day, mainly theory based, course covers planning, supervising and managing the use of MEWPs. Subjects featured include:

  • Risk assessments
  • Selecting the correct equipment for the job
  • Machine familiarisation requirements
  • Accident prevention
  • Risk reduction
  • Hazard awareness (overhead, ground and site conditions etc)
  • Emergency lowering procedures
  • Personal protective equipment
  • MEWP pre-use checks and maintenance.

On successfully completing the course, candidates will receive an IPAF MEWPs for Managers certificate and will have gained a firm understanding of current legislation, regulations, best practice and standards. They will also be able to carry out a pre-use inspection and most importantly will be able to make sure that MEWPs are operated legally and safely.
